P06 REVIEW!

Location: Clarkston, WA area.
Date: JULY , 10, 2010
Weather: 97 degrees and very windy.

Equipment: CZ-USA Range bag.

Weapon:
CZ75 P-06 .40 caliber compact service pistol.
CZUB factory Tru-dot Nites, CZ-USA tuned action.

Gear: High Noon Holster's rock steady belt in natural horsehide
CZ P-01 Topless holster with single mag pouch in natural horsehide as well.

AMMO:
50: rounds of Federal 180 FMJ.
50: Double Tap Ammo 150 grain Nosler JHP
50: Double Tap Ammo 180 grain Nosler JHP

After almost a year of seeing a P-06 in the flesh at a local
sporting goods store.

I was very impressed by the workmanship and menacing forty caliber hole in the
front of the gun.

Myself, having owned two P-01s and more recently.. the PCR.

I'm no stranger to the wonderful CZ Compact framed guns.

Based on the very police and ccw proven P-01 design.
The P-06 offers those not wanting or trusting a 9mm, the
.40 caliber option.

Like with the P-01 and PCR. The P-06 seems to be pretty much trouble-free for
most shooters. The gun is very sturdy and shockingly accurate for a Forty.
Some owners saying that the P-06s are among the most accurate of all the .40
S&W pistols on the market.

Well, as Summer has finally reached this part of the country.

Both Nancy and I decided to brave almost 100 degree the heat- and take a small trip out into the
wild country.

We were both surprised to see a herd of Mountain Goats along the way!

Range Time:

Being that this was my first time shooting the new P-06.

I knew that with the action job from Matt Hunter at Cz-USA.
I'd have a different experience than with a stock CZ pistol
Like my P-01 that has the #13 mainspring installed, but still has a gritty trigger pull.

My initial cartridges were the 180 gr. Federals, so I could get a good feel of the
gun. This proved to be good warm-up ammo as I was impressed with the 15 yard
accuracy, WHEN I did my part. The gun liked to Snake-Eye on the target,,
that is to put two precise holes next to each other.
As you can see by this pic. The gun was far more accurate than I could shoot it.

The very smooth DA and SA trigger pulls and were really something special.
Smooth feeling DA stroke with a (grit-free) glassy smooth travel in SA that breaks
very clean.

The wind was blowing pretty hard about that time and my groups were slightly to the right.
This proved to be the case when I trotted out the powerful Double Tap 180s.

Blast and recoil were noticed as I shot strings of 5 into the targets.
Frankly, the P-06 bucked a bit in my hands, but recoil was acceptable for me.

Next up- were the blistering 150 grain Double Tap loads.

If a handgun bullet could be propelled by rocket fuel, this might take the cake!
Recoil was reduced over the 180 load, but it still had some bark and bite.
Accuracy improved with this load as well.
Nancy was snapping way with the camera, and got this:

I've always like full house 10mm loads in the 150-165 grain range.
Frankly either of these Double Tap .40 offerings are enough 10mm diameter
power for me.

These loads are both fast:

and offer some real punch if you don't like the standard .40 S&W fodder on the market.
I didn't notice much muzzle flash on my end, but muzzle blast and loudness were evident
with both loads.

I'm sure that they would be much more accurate in the hands of another shooter, or
from the bench. However, any of my shots would have proven very unhealthy for
any armed adversary(s).

(The P-06 serves well in the home defense role, especially with my M-6 light/laser combo.)

I continued to shoot the FMJ and more Double Tap until the Federal stuff was gone.
After the 75th round was fired. I was very convinced that the gun was a keeper.

Lasting Impressions:

Recoil:
Know that I didn't feel and buzz or sting from the trigger like I've encountered with other
light .40s such as the SIGMA and Glock 22 /23s that I've shot in the past.
While the P-06 does have more recoil than my comparable 9mms and RAMI.
I really didn't/don't see it as an issue.

The gun didn't pound my hand or leave me exhausted after the session.

I think that Matt Hunter did a great job on the trigger/action for me and such would be
a worth-while modification on any CZ pistol.

High Noon's Topless model holster was easy to draw from during this testing.

Future:
Some Crimson Trace laser grips

and Hogue grips screws will the only changes that I'll make
to the gun, unless I really need that full length stainless guide rod from Steve Bedair.

I'm really impressed and happy with this P-06, and can tell everyone that THIS is the
.40 they have been wanting!

The .40 caliber P-01!

Not much news for most of JUNE on my end.

However, JULY is looming ahead, and looking to be quite fun.

My new P-06 as tuned by CZ-US,A arrived a week or so ago.

The action is friction free. Has the usual travel in the trigger, but very smooth, on DA, with a light, crisp let off in both DA and especially SA.

I think the travel will decrease as I shoot the gun more and more.

I'm not really noticing the stacking or camming action as with prior CZs such as my Crimson Trace laser grip equipped P-01 that now resides with my Father.

You can see that there has been some tinkering done when looking at the P-06 from this angle.

CZ-USA Gunsmith Matt Hunter did the action work. The gun came from the factory with
Tru-Dot real deal tritium 3-dot night sights.

I'm keeping the stock CZ rubber grips on it until the Crimson Trace GREEN laser grips are available.

My Insight M-6 light & laser combo (red laser) will be attached while it serves as my house gun. The M-6 was a birthday present from Nancy. I guess she saved quite
a while to get it for me.

Like with the action job. The M-6 is a worth-while addition to my new baby.

Carry ammunition will be the Nosler 150 or 180 grain JHP as loaded and supplied by
Double Tap Ammo.

I'm not sure which one will be more accurate in this gun.

Like with other ammo from DT. I'm sure that this stuff will prove to be both hot and powerful.

High quality control and accuracy have also been top-notch with Double Tap in the past.

My plan is to do a full review in a week or so.

CZF Member Spots The New P-02!

Well, needless to say.

I checked into the P-01 CLUB and did a little searching of my own.
Yes, a Light Alloy framed P-01 style gun that uses the new OMEGA trigger
system!

Like the P-07 Duty. The user will be able to switch from de-cocker to DA/SA.

A longtime wish from many a member, you will be able to carry the Compact sized gun cocked and locked.

This is one surprise from CZUB that will be well received.

A great 47th Birthday for me. I got a few gifts that were nice and new M6 light/laser combo, and now a brand spanking new P-07 duty in 9mm!

.40s On The Horizon!

Word from CZ-USA is that there will be .40 S&W versions of the P-07 Duty for 2010.

Whether the rumored first batch of 100 will hit our shores this month, is up to the
good folks at the factory in Uhersky Brod.

Owning 5 CZ 9mms myself and recently selling my 10mm due to non-usage.
(I guess that's what you could call having only shot it on two occasions
in past 10 years?)

I'm partially open to exploring a .40 caliber Duty.

The ammo supply on a local level shows there to be more .40 S&W than 9mm
or .45 on the shelves. Most of it being SPEER, but that is a good thing!

Being on of the very first to review the new offering sounds exciting.

I'm thinking that my two factory P-07 holsters would fit either caliber gun, but
you never know.

Of course, one could always carry the Forty Duty in one of these:

Some Old And New!

This will be my last post for 2009.

A great year for CZ sales and gun/ammo sales in general!

We have seen some very nice firearms come from CZUB this past year, and I'm really excited to see what 2010 has in store for the CZ fan.

I think the CZ75 P-07 Duty had a rough start but has smoothed out in the past few months, as CZ-USA worked overtime to address any problems.

The addition of a .40 caliber P-07 Duty for the New Year will really turn some heads.

I personally know of 3 guys who own P-01s and have waited for the forty version of
the Duty to appear on our shores.

I'll mention the new CZ-USA/Dan Wesson Range bags again, and hope that Alice
will want to bring in the CZUB Byron caps very soon.

There are still some CZ/DW backpacks left. Nancy loves hers!

One gun that came onto the scene late in the year was the CZ Custom Shop's
CZ SP-07.

The gun seems to be catching on with competitors, and you can bet that
anything from Angus, will be a shooting machine!

Some of us have seen the prototype P-07 Duty on CZ-USA's Twitter page.

I think the neatest thing is the 20 round magazine!

Sliding Into 2010!

It looks like CZ is starting to reveal some new products even before the SHOT SHOW.

Firstly, the new CZ-USA/Dan Wesson Range Bags are here!

At $39 they look to be a great way to haul CZ guns and gear!

The same can be said for the new Range Bags from CRIMSON TRACE.

$49 but with Free shipping, so it will probably even out between the CZ bag.

CZ-USA now has some new models on their website.

One of them being a CZ Custom shop version of the popular 75SA, called the
75SA TARGET.

The pic is small, but the description is mighty interesting:

"The Target version of the CZ 75 Single Action was designed by Angus Hobdell, and brought to life by the CZ Custom Shop. The custom shop has tuned this pistol up for anyone interested in competing or who wants to do some serious paper punching with a single action 9mm. Modifications made by the gunsmiths at the CZ Custom Shop include a trigger job leaving all safeties intact, installation of Novak rear sight with a fiber optic front, competition springs, CZ Custom Aluminum Grips, firing pin, flat aluminum trigger, drop free magazine brake, and competition hammer."

A small supply of new posters arrived last week from the CZ factory.
They feature TEAM CZUB and show the trio in competition gear.

CZ-USA seems to be all out of posters right now, so I'm the only source in the
USA for these and other CZ factory posters. I'll be adding these posters to my sets
for sale- until my now limited supply of sets are gone.

I'm really excited to see what more will be unveiled at SHOT.

CZ Stuff for December

Well, the month of November was pretty uneventful for CZ stuff on my end.

I still plan to do a review on the CZ-USA/DW backpack, but have enough on my plate
for now.

I've just finished my review of custom grips from Dennis Marschal.

They are superbly crafted and fit very well.

Having asked for one pair to review, he gladly sent me 4 other pairs!

The others will go towards CZF related promotions, but one pair is staying with
us for Nancy's PCR.

As you can see by the pics. His grips flat out ROCK!

Not much news in CZ land right now.

People are still buying guns.. and CZ-USA seems quite busy.

The new DAN WESSON T-shirts look and fit quite nice, without
much shrinkage.

I'm eager to see what 2010 will bring us for the CZ and DW line
of fine firearms and accessories.

Dan Wesson's CCO looks to be a real winner and those that can afford them and
find one are very happy.

I actually prefer 10MM, but my wife Nancy doesn't care to shoot anything more
powerful than a .45 ACP.

However, a CCO in the current aluminum frame and the 10MM cartridge would
be a real handful for myself and others out there.

I've made a comment about DW bringing back the steel framed CCO of old.
Should they offer it in 10MM and .45 ACP, I think it would appeal to many.

Those lucky souls with the few made years ago- are surely not giving them up!

There will be no supply of CZ POSTERS at CZ-USA, unless you wish to buy the
ZKM .22 Rifle poster.

My supply is very limited as well.

Sadly, more CZ-USA patches either! The CZ-USA hat pins will be phased out in
favor of a newer design. I'm not sure about the current CZ-USA decals.

I will be doing a photo review of the new CZ-USA/DW Backpack in a few days.

This, along with the 3 pack of CZ75 16-shot magazines, could very well be a BEST BUY for your CZ Dollar!

A few people have bought the DW Concealed Officer's Carry .45 ACP.
So far, they are very pleased.

For a gun that lists near $1,500. I surely hope they are.

Unlike my old Combat Commander and departed Dan Wesson CBOB.

The smaller/lighter CCO utilizes an aluminum alloy Officer's
type frame to save on weight.

The CCO's 1.7 pound weight versus the 2.3 pounds of the longer
heavier 2.3 pound CBOB, makes a lot of sense to me.

A solid (adjustable) match trigger that is different than that of the
CBOB's.With the same "duty coat" ceramic finish as found
on the deadly looking Valor.

Novak style low profile tritium nites and special grips, along with
a rounded(not bobbed) butt completes the package.

I think that they made a wise move to use the Commander slide,
instead of a more possibly problematic shorter slide as found
on some of the micro 1911s on the market.

My only change.. would be to add the Crimson Trace LG-404 laser grip
for the Compact/Defender models.

Sadly, the prices look to remain high and well out of my reach
for the time being, so I'll have to settle for a DW t-shirt!

That said: I still think it would be an ideal carry 1911 for this broken
down ex-cop, who really can't carry big or heavy guns anymore.

Oh, How Sweet It Is! PCR IN ACTION!

We took a break and caught some welcome sun rays on Saturday.

As expected. Nancy's new PCR ran perfectly with the FTX-9MM and other ammo including Blazer.

Brass was in the cool crisp air as the dog's barked in Nancy's new Ford Escape.

We both did quite well with it being a new gun and all.

No complaints about the trigger, just some clean shots on the targets.
When i did my part, the gun could really deliver, especially with the
light recoiling Hornady FTX!!

A good (maybe record) year for CZ sales so far. They should be even better as they get more
positive press like the recent cover of Combat Handguns and now Guns & Ammo
magazine!

CZ fans are starting to buy the DUTY.. and posting their observations and some nice

SP-01 PHANTOM Makes COMBAT HANDGUNS Cover!

The CZexy as hell PHANTOM is now gracing the cover of the June 2009
issue. Like or hate polymer guns, the new line of polymer framed CZs is going to be hard to miss this year. The Phantom looks to be sweetness on rails, if you know what I mean:)

CZ fans are already screaming for a .40 version of the PHANTOM and P-07 DUTY.

HORNADY Should Be Bringing .40 S&W FTX to the market very soon.

I've liked the Phantom since the first time that I saw a pic.
They were running around Australia back then.. and those guys were
having some real fun with the latest toy from CZ.

Looks like the polymer guns might be the Best Buys in the CZ pistol line.

For those of you with doubts about anything 'plastic' from CZ.

While not such a great gun due to the horrible DAO trigger.
There has never been a problem with the CZ100 and it's polymer frame
cracking or breaking in any way. At least not to my knowledge.

Likewise..

The RAMI P and Phantom have been on the market and in shooter's
hand for a while now.

There is no apparent durability issues with the polymer frames.

Being sent several boxes of the newest development at Hornady: The FTX flex tip technology
round in 9mm Luger caliber.

Reportedly- giving expansion Every Time through clothing and barriers.
The FTX looks interesting for my defensive needs.

Usually, I try to get good pics of myself or others shooting, and of muzzle
flash, ect. My camera batteries were near dead, and I could only get a few
pics. Hopefully, I'll be able to do some further testing with FTX when the
weather gets warmer.

My GOAL: Function/ accuracy testing for use in my CZ and other 9mm pistols.

TESTING:

CZ2075 RAMI in 9mm: The Chunky Monkey Mini-Z.

7 yards.

8 rounds of FTX. All rounds targets chewed out center of bullseye, save for two
low rounds, due to the target being low on the hanger. I was able to correct
quickly and center punch the zippy FTX rounds thru the target.

Mild recoil with little muzzle flash or rise. No feeding problems.

(Note: Exactly what I want in a defensive load!)

15 yards.

14 rounds of the FTX through my RAMI. No problem with printing some tight groups when I
did my part.

Due to my health issues. I don't shoot much anymore and my shooting skills
have suffered, but I try to do my best.

14 more rounds down range. Accuracy on my part improved. The FTX seems to be much
more accurate than I am.

Low recoil. Little muzzle flash or rise. Superb reliability.

CZ75 (Pre-B) the stoic 9mm that the CZ pistol legend was built upon.

15 yards.

15 rounds of FTX. Showing better accuracy than the RAMI, but not by much.
Hampered by the tiny fixed sights, but still able to get some decent combat accuracy.

Excellent reliability.

15 rounds of Speer 124 gr. Gold Dot +P (carry load) which exhibited more muzzle
flash and blast, along with muzzle rise than the FTX.

I've shot a lot of this load in my CZs and know how it acts in my RAMI, too.

I guess that is the price you pay with the +P load. No feeding problems encountered

GLOCK 19 TALO Limited Edition:

15 yards.

10 rounds of FTX.

Fighting the Glock trigger and Glock sights. The FTX fed well and delivered decent accuracy.
I'm a CZ guy at heart, so a real Glock fan could probably get superior accuracy results.

Low recoil and flash, low muzzle rise.

10 rounds of Blazer 9mm.

Average accuracy, as much as you can expect from ball ammo. Moderate recoil and
blast. Moderate flash, but not a lot of muzzle rise. More noticable in all areas than
than the FTX. This lot of ammo tends to run hot in my pistols.

OBSERVATIONS:

The FTX showed mild manners and exceptional accuracy ( for me ) and 100% reliability.

Less recoil than the compared SPEER +P load, or the hot Blazer.

Controlled recoil with the FTX and other rounds, but the Hornady offering seems to be
the winner.

Low flash/blast also makes it a winner for defensive carry at night.

No reliability problems were evident. Something that I can't say with certain loads and
the RAMI.

Other testers may not agree with my experience, but I really like the FTX.

This load has met my requirements for defensive carry.

New Ammo from Hornady : FTX Critical Defense

Hello all!

In recent days I've obtained a quantity of the new FTX round in 9mm from the
good people at Hornady.

I will hopefully be testing it in my new RAMI P when the gun arrives shortly.

Early reports show the FTX ( Flex Tip design ) to resist clogging up with clothing and other debris, and resulting in Expansion, every single time!

12 inches of penetration with the 9mm 115 grain FTX critical defense load
sounds ideal to me.

At a listed 1,140 fps. My hope is that is will preform admirably in the RAMIs..
and no be too hot for the Chunk Monkey's small/light slide.

Myself and others have had slide velocity issues when using +P or +P+
rounds, and the FTX will be put to the test soon.

As a big fan/user of the mighty 10mm round, incuding the superb Hornady XTP
bullet. I'm looking forward to seeing Hornady (a leader in ammo technology) offer
the FTX in this wonderful caliber.

Likewise, I hear that people are very happy to be carrying this in their
.380s.

I should be getting my Ruger LCP soon:)

New CZ items at SHOT Show 2009.

While the Shot Show reports have been coming in on different websites.

Most of the stuff seems to be old news. Products that have been on the market for some time now.

The CZUB/Dan Wesson line does have a few new things for 2009.

Firstly. Looking at the CZ-USA product line.

Pics of the P-07 Duty at the CZ booth have been circulating.

My my note of the adjustable rear sight to Dave, has brought me some
interesting information.

Basically, the new DUTY will be very user friendly,
and at a much reduced price over the comparable alloy framed
P-01. By $160 or more!

At 1.7 pounds (almost the same weight as the P-01's 1.71) Polymer framed with a 16-shot magazine capacity.

The Omega fire control that allows you to switch from traditional DA/SA or to
decocker..and your choice of fixed combat or adjustable
sights.. \\

Combined with a decent price.

What's not to like!

Other pistols in the new catalog are the BD (decocker) models such as the RAMI BD (alloy framed)and the big 97BD in .45 ACP flavor.

Of course, the smooth selling P-06 in .40 caliber is present.

I do not see a RAMI P in BD form yet. Hopefully some will follow later this
year.

As for the slick CZ83.

No 9MM MAK chambering for 2009, unless Alice wants to bring
a few in at a time.

There do seem to be plenty of surplus CZ82s on the market at places like
J&G SALES in Arizona.

Dan Wesson will have the Concealed Carry Officer's model again for this year.

A lot of DW owners have cried for the return of the CC0.

Another newbie is the DW Pointman Seven in Desert Tan.

Looks like it will only be available in .45 ACP for the time being.

The other POINTMAN>>SKU # 1901 Pointman Seven comes in 10mm.

Then there is the Pointman 9. Looks pretty nice!

Also look for a Pointman in the ever popular .40 S&W chambering!

Look for something New Called a Pointman Marksman...no caliber mentioned.

Their CBOB is now available in two tone finish and like before..in .45
ACP and my favorite..the mighty 10mm.

New developments as we go into 2009!

The RAMI BD is now reaching the Dealers.
WE have heard good things so far.

Should appeal to those that have overlooked the RAMI in the past,
that wanted a safer way of decocking.

In a way..I think that SAFETY should be first.

The addition of BD models to the CZ line is a good thing, really.

Just because I have no problem easing the hammer down on a live round,
doesn't mean that someone else will be as comfortable.

Thoughts for CZs in 2009

With CZ-USA already advertising the P-07 Duty ( Along with the Phantom) in USA gun magazines
such as Shooting Times.

The reality of the P-07 is that:

A: Finally a polymer framed CZ pistol that isn't a DAO abomination.

B: This new pistol features the 'Omega' fire control system, allowing
the user to switch from conventional mode of a safety SA/DA or to the Decocker
in mere minutes.

C: Everyone who has been lucky enough to shoot the "Duty" has come away mightily impressed.

D: Earlier info that the backstrap will interchange ( ala Phantom) appears to be incorrect.

E: This psitol will need neew magazines. By my information, Standard CZ Compact
( P-01, Compact ) mags don't fit.

F: Dave ( Mr. Compact) will probably be shooting one by May!

So, like other CZ products for 2009. The Duty is new and very exciting to most who know about it. However..I'm sure there will be a big debate on how much better the Duty is over the well established P-O1, and even the PCR from the PCR hardcores.

On another note. Along with CZ products from Hakan, Omega, and Crimson Trace.
I like the new grip options for the Compacts from CZ-USA that will be surely appreciated by
us CZ fans.

Jo's new P-01 is a fine example.

Fans of the Phantom are stacking up.

Superb ergonomics and light recoil, combined with stunning accuracy!

Sounds like a recipe for a CZ right there!

I'd like to eventually get one and set it
up with a tac-light for house duty.

In regard to the RAMIs.

The RAMI BD (standard with nites ) is catching on quickly.

I've long shouted from the rooftops.. that the RAMI market was/is missing a segment of
gun buyers who deem the SA/DA versions as unsafe for carry. Due to having to lower the
hammer on a live round (do it myself) or carry cocked N locked with the very slim safety
lever.

The BD concept opens a whole new door for those people that would have jumped on a
decocker version years ago if such had been available. The addition of having Nites as
standard issue is just the icing on the cake.

Those persons with the RAMI P ploymer framed guns seem to like them as well.

WE can only hope that CZ offers a BD version for the P in the near future.

CZ .22s.

Handgun:

My new Kadet Kit is still giving me problems.

Failure to fire every 3 rounds or so. CZ-USA is sending me a new firing pin spring
when available.

Pity, as the conversion kit is Phenom accurate when it works properly.
The Glo-Dot adjustable LPA sights are the cat's meowww!

For Range work they are ideal. No need for tritium dots, as this isn't for defense.

Rifles:

I have my eye on the 513 Basic .22 rifle.

Something is just right about the stock and iron sights.

This will be a perfect starting point for me to build a CZ .22 bolt collection.

After that, a 452 Varmint or 452 FS would be nice.

A RAMI P and black Horsehide Topless pancake from High Noon will have to come first though:)
